Our approach

We don't offer a one-size-fits-all approach

After your initial ultrasound assessment, Mr Blair will recommend the treatment — or combination of treatments — that will deliver the best outcome for your individual veins. What’s right for one patient may not be right for another.

Every treatment plan at Liverpool Varicose Veins Clinic begins with a free Colour Duplex Ultrasound Scan. This maps the venous anatomy of your legs in real time, identifying exactly which veins are faulty, the extent of the reflux, and the most appropriate treatment pathway.

Most patients with significant varicose veins require a combination of ClariVein ablation and foam sclerotherapy — both of which are included in our single all-inclusive treatment price.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Everything patients ask us before booking their first consultation — answered honestly.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can self-refer by contacting us directly. There is no requirement for a GP referral, though many patients do come with one. Simply call or email to arrange your free initial consultation.

The NHS has significantly restricted varicose vein treatment. It is now only available for patients with serious complications such as bleeding, skin changes, or leg ulcers. The majority of patients with varicose veins — even significant and symptomatic ones — are no longer eligible for NHS treatment. Private treatment is the most reliable route for most patients.

ClariVein ablation takes approximately 45 minutes. Foam sclerotherapy as a standalone treatment takes 20–30 minutes. Thread vein microsclerotherapy sessions take 30–45 minutes. All treatments are performed as an outpatient — there is no overnight stay and no general anaesthetic required.

ClariVein ablation must be performed on one leg at a time, with a minimum of one week between treatments. This is standard clinical practice across all ablation methods. Foam sclerotherapy and thread vein treatment can sometimes be performed on both legs in the same session, depending on the extent of veins.

Varicose veins are enlarged, bulging veins caused by faulty valves in the deeper saphenous veins — they require ClariVein ablation or foam sclerotherapy. Thread veins (also called spider veins) are very small, superficial capillaries visible just beneath the skin — they require microsclerotherapy, a different technique performed by our specialist nurse Pamela Pearson.

Yes. We offer 0% interest finance through Chrysalis Finance on all treatments over £500. ClariVein for one leg (£2875) can be spread over 12 months for approximately £220 per month. Finance is subject to status and available to UK residents aged 18 and over.
